| | man mavericks, daaaaaaaamnit...i mean yall had that game just didn't think, now your season is over
ok enough of the sobbing and crying, its time for my annual "What the Mavericks Need to do in the Off Season Report"
things we learned this season and the solutions
Point Play-ok well with the void left by steve nash's depart last year, the mavericks did they best they could with the players they had to trade and the players they recieved from those trades, the trade of jamison was actually a great trade...we traded basicly sixth man of the year for another and we got the best point guard from the number 5 pick in the draft devin harris...he is deffinatly looking to be the point guard of the future...the trades for jason terry and darrel armstrong were also great deals, all of these guards and some low times but all turned out a positive season of point guard play, but the post season changed everything...in the playoffs u dont get to run AS much, so you need someone to run the offense. Terry is an outstanding shooter, probably the best shooter on the team, but he doesn't run the offense well, he doesn't turn the ball over but doesn't do anything else beside shoot, as you could tell from the playoff losses we had a lot of 4th quarter collapes mainly because we couldn't score in the half-court. solution: this is a tough one, because we do not need to trade core players, this team needs to mesh together because they can dominate when they put their minds to it. best idea is to try and sign an above average point guard, put terry on the bench and make it a tri fecta of offense when van horn, terry, and stack come off the bench. oh and heres something else...remember the year when we went to the conference finals and would of went to the championship and won if dirk didn't get hurt? well i remember a guy named nick van exel...well he was a backup point guard, but did he really run the offense a lot when nash sat? no, what did he do...he SHOT...and did a good job at it, if i'm not mistaken thats what terry does too...hmmmmm wonder if the mavs can figure out the equation as well.
"Throw it Down Big Man"- the mavericks FINALLY signed a big huge body to clog the paint in erik dampier (i also stated for them to do so..) but he was a little incosistent, and the public backlash didn't help the big fella. but then it just clicked, for about a month he was averaging 13 points 14 rebounds and about 2 blocks a game...those are ben wallace numbers! but sadly as he was starting to get into his groove, he was injured for a good deal of time and he never returned to the form he was before he was hurt, all we can hope for is that this summer her works hard (and learns how to catch) so he can play consistent instead of showing flashes of what he really can do like in the playoffs. also another little "nugget" if you wish...you could make a case for dampier being mavericks mvp...now dont go throwing stones and vegtables at josh, just hear me out...in the playoffs we won just about all of our games without a great preformence from dirk, we went almost 2 series without him playin well at all...but in the games we won damp was always productive and a force inside...games we lost he was basicly a none factor...interesting. solution: once again damp just needs an off season with mavs coaches to fit into the system more and become more comfortable. but there is one thing, we need to sign a center a true center to come off the bench because bradely is worthless, and despite allen henderson playin as hard as he can, hes only 6-9 and just isn't big enough to tackle huge imposing centers...just sign a suitable backup for damp.
"Michael Finely Actually Makes a Jumpshot..."- oh mikey mikey, what has happened!? last season you were consistently hitting your shots, somewhat rebounding and makin the extra pass, but you dissapeared this season/post season...the bad thing is we cant really trade him, he has too large of a contract and he is a co captin...but the auroa of mike and dirk cant do no wrong needs to be lifted! these guys on some night cant buy a shot and complain that they are gettin fouled and all that. but the thing is if mike isn't makin jumpshots what good is he? defense? no. not really. assists, helping to shoulder some of the point duites? no. he seems to be shying away from that as he grows older. rebounds? no. he doesn't seem to have the bounce in his step to go after lose balls and rebounds. this also goes out to stack and dirk as well......DRIVE TO THE BASKET IF YOUR J'S AREN"T FALLING, to many times do i see these 3 players not go to the hole when they have the ability to when they are in a slump, also go to the basket to make the shot, not to get fouled, if u go there just to get fouled, you wont get the call all the time, go to the hole make your shot and maybe the by product is a foul. solution (finely): all we can do is hope that avery has some private talks with him and tells him, look if you aren't producing your sittin on the bench, co caption or not.
in conclusion besides everything i have written above the mavs just need to stick together, do not demolish the team, just let them grow and learn and play together, just like the spurs did and they seem to be better then us.
well that does it i'll see yall hopefully a little bit later next year
